My name is Allison Monson and my major is Materials Science and Engineering. I’m pursuing a degree in materials engineering because I want to develop a biodegradable and sustainable polymer that can be used to manufacture single-use plastic products. I plan to go straight into pursuing my doctorate after graduating in order to lead my own academic research, along with eventually becoming a professor.
I am currently in my second year at GSU Perimeter College as a participant in the R.E.P program and plan to transfer to Georgia Tech in Spring 2025. Outside of my prior high school academic experience, the time I’ve spent at GSU has been my introduction to the world of STEM.
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to dive deeper into the STEM community at the 2023 Society of Women Engineers conference. I’m really looking forward to being able to network with accomplished engineers and gain a wider perspective on the industry as a whole. This will be my first-ever conference, so overall I am just excited and grateful to gain a new experience that will help propel me into my future as an engineer.
