18th Annual Undergraduate Mathematics Competition at GSU

The 18th Annual Undergraduate Mathematics Competition at GSU will take place on Friday, April 19, 2024, starting at 13:30, in Aderhold 304.

  • This is a fun contest where students are given the chance to showcase their solving problem techniques. The problems will concentrate more on creativity and natural talent and less on long and routine computations. The problems will roughly be chosen from topics such as sequences, limits, continuity, differentiation, and integration of one variable function, plus mathematical induction, sets, functions, geometry, etc. The contest is open to any student who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate mathematics course at any campus of Georgia State University. Those who participate can solve some interesting problems, make new friends, and discuss mathematics for a couple of hours.
  • The contest will have three parts as follows.
    • Part I: 30 minutes, 6 multiple choice questions. Each correct answer is 3 pts. Followed by a 15 minute break.
    • Part II: 30 minutes, 6 free response problems that require complete solutions. Each correct solution is 5 pts. Followed by a 15 minute break.
    • Part III: 20 minutes, 2 more challenging free response problems. Each correct solution is 10 pts.
