Web Design Tips

Some helpful web design tips that I can think of include:

1.) Visually you should find a good balance between making the page colorful and stimulating but make sure you don’t try to do too much with the graphics. Color is good, but too much can be an eyesore and turn a person away from that website.

2.) Also, you should make the page easy to navigate with. Things should be simple for people to find things from that webpage.

Netiquette

Netiquette is a whole new term that I was introduced to. Prior to this, I had no idea it was even given a name, but I believe I use proper netiquette when I am browsing online. One fact that I learned was that a response to a comment is not necessary. It is best to avoid trouble, or confrontations just to have a better experience on the web and no hassles.

Useful Resources

Above all, I personally found the Student Careers Services Center to be the most helpful and invaluable resource available to students at Georgia State University. Beyond just telling you what to do, they tell you how to do it. Be it resume writing or editing, to interview skills, their goal is to help us students succeed in various ventures, from finding a job, to fining an internship. Having people with you step by step who know what to do, and to be given advice like that is priceless, such as knowledge from their own experiences. With all that, it’s a no brainer that students should utilize this resource.

Academic Citations

After reading the material, I have seen some new information and some old information. Old wise, I have known about MLA citations since middle school and ALA citations since high school.  However I was pretty surprised to learn about such terms as Chicago style citations, and Turabian style citations. I have also never know about citing when using someone else’s diagrams, charts, or graphs. Although, I will admit since learning so much more about citations this semester, it does make sense. I also didn’t know that citation styles also had their own specific uses, such as AMA being used for medicine and health sciences. I wonder if the way it is styled is better formatted for such sources related to medicinal or health sciences.

Acadia University.

This tutorial was really in tune with most college students. I learned and was reminded of how serious it is to get your citations done correctly. Citations have not always been my strongest point because as the tutorial explained it is easy to mistake citing or referencing to paraphrasing. The tutorial was very helpful in that it made it engaging and added a touch of humor with lots of practice. I didn’t really learn much since this has been engrained into our brains since we started learning how to write papers in elementary school, but reminded us how many more consequences there are now in college.

Important Apps!

TIMETABLE: I find this app very useful to me and forgetful self. This app lets you organize all of your assignments. It take notes, manage courses and auto calculate your GPA. It reminds you of upcoming classes and events such as finals and such.

CLOUD MAGIC: This is app is a mail app. Although all phones come with a mail app, I like to download cloud magic because it takes all of my mail accounts such as Gmail, Office, Yahoo, etc and opens them all on one united app. This is so much simpler to me because I don’t have time to be looking at 4 to 5 different application. I like when multiple accounts come together on one app and it helps me stay organized.

Tool Inventory

Task 1:

  • Tools: For an online presentation you can use such things as power point software or go onto prezi.
  • Reason: They both allow you to make you presentation visually stimulating and they are both to use and see.

Task 2:

  • First of all you have many ways to collect other students notes for your final exam. Such things as Google Docs to collect notes.
  • Google Docs make it easy for multiple people to post thing in one documents coming from multiple sources. You can also message on the side as well. It’s nice because no matter where anybody is they can add their two cents and complete such things like a study guide for the exam.

Task 3:

  • You can use sites nowadays such as Strayboots.com or even Youtube and Vimeo.
  • Strayboots.com is actually an interesting site where people make tours from wherever in the world and make it available on the site. Sometimes made by locals sounds like a better idea to me. Youtube and Vimeo, have nowadays been a very often used site for people to make interesting videos of their travels. Vloggers nowadays post video talking about what they saw and recommend places that they found interesting.

Task 4:

  • Such things like a presentation format like power points, prezi and video sharing sites.
  • The students can gather all the information together or separately and each make a section of the slides and put them in one visual and easy to understand presentation. You could also make it into a video with everything the  students want to present all in one video. Lots of sites allow this such as youtube, vimeo, etc.
