In-process photos
This project was an exploration of sculpture, texture, form, and conceptual depth. Centered around the theme of inside/outside, the process was incredibly exploratory and allowed for a lot of creative freedom. I started by shaving down the edges to disguise the soap bar shape. Then, I carved a hole in the middle and used various tools to add details and smooth the edges. Once the main structure was complete, I twisted together two thin strips of clay and draped them in and around the soap.
As the main structure took shape, I seized the opportunity to introduce additional elements of visual interest and complexity. Twisting together thin strips of clay, I carefully draped them in and around the soap, enhancing the interplay between the organic and the geometric, the tangible and the ephemeral. Overall, this project challenged me to think outside the box and embrace the unexpected, resulting in a deeply rewarding exploration of form, texture, and the dynamic interplay between inside and outside.
