Project I – Compassion Posters

I believe that the best way to show compassion is to listen and be there for the person or cause in need. Compassion means showing respect and granting dignity to the party, not necessarily jumping in to fix something right away. Compassion shows commitment, engagement, humility, and a willingness to learn about another’s pain or problem.

My focus for this project was on two existing problems: lonely (urban) senior citizens and the lack of affordable student housing. One way to tackle both problems could be a program, offered through the university housing system, for seniors to open their homes and offer free or greatly reduced rates for rooms in their – now too large – residences to students at nearby schools.

I created two posters to encourage the consideration of such a program: one from the perspective of the senior citizens (“The Key Is Sharing”) and one to speak more to students (“Sharing Is the Key”).

I used paper collages for the images and finalized the posters on the Canvas platform.
