ENGL 2110 Introduction to World Literature

Introduction to World Literature

ENGL 2110 provides a space for encounters with cultural and artistic insights found in writing from around the world. While this course often focuses on Anglophone literature from non-Western traditions, it may also feature literature in translation and writing from antiquity.

Because the selection of readings is often broad in topic and scope, the course encourages students to make connections between texts and contexts representing diverse perspectives. ENGL 2110 also improves students’ reading comprehension and introduces methods for critical thinking practiced in comparative analysis, close reading, and expository writing.

For all students, ENGL 2110 fills a College of Arts & Sciences core requirement in the Arts, Humanities, and Ethics area.

For English majors, ENGL 2110 satisfies the Field of Study requirement, preparing students for more advanced coursework in global, postcolonial, and transnational literatures.

For students pursuing the Certificate in Editing & Publishing, ENGL 2110 is one of several options.
