As we move through time, the peoples’ hero changes. It goes from the leader to the scholar to the innovator to the authentic to the affluent and finally to no one. For some this may seem horrifying. If there is no longer a clear hero to follow, how is anyone supposed to know where to go? But perhaps this task of being one’s own hero is not as daunting as it appears. Without a hero there are no expectations to live up to. People are free to be whomever they want and take whatever path they wish. The absence of a hero does not equal the absence of hope. Maybe there is even more hope now than ever before.
