Magazine Paper, Tea Bags, Water Based Crayons
Talk about Inspiration. where are ideas coming from. why are you approaching that topic in the way you are?
I really wanted to incorporate the sun and the stars into my self portrait. I have always been fascinated with the sky and space. There is something about looking up into the unknown behind the sun that just makes me feel special, seeing all the stars in my front yard or at the beach makes me feel like I have purpose in this world. My actual “portrait” ended up covering the sun, leaving some sun rays coming out behind me and just a few stars visible. Initially I was sad because I really enjoyed it. I now think it is a perfect example of that feeling I get, that words will never be able to describe but will always be inside me.
I chose to make my hair from pictures of women in dresses because I love fashion, and I added a headband with some stars I made from tea bags to illustrate that I have a good and spectacular head on my shoulders. I added some extra blush for a sun-kissed look and to express that same sun radiating from within me.
Something that I was stuck on was going through my many many magazines to find a picture of someone who resembled me. I think that sometimes I get so caught up in the perfections. Luckily though through each project my little artist voice always comes to the front “show it through something other than actualization!” So I think this was a good example to show who I am without a face that resembles mine perfectly. Because in reality, this is how I view myself and I am happy with that.
