A Little About Myself

My name is Laura Beth and I am currently a student hat Georgia State Perimeter campus. I am transitioning to the Main Downtown Campus starting in the Fall of 2021 and pursuing my BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Interior Design.

I was born and grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I have two older sisters (and a little brother) and we didn’t live in a high income house hold, so sharing was our thing – well more like their thing. But that’s ok, because it taught me how to be creative and use my imagination more! I remember very specifically we would race down the hill of our driveway on Magazine Day and fight over the American Girl Doll Catalog. They would typically win leaving me with my mom’s Pottery Barn or Ballard Design magazines to flip through. I think this, and of course my mom always going out of her way to decorate to perfection really set that interest in all things fabric and color.

My first job was at Pottery Barn and I learned a lot there, things about design, work ethics, how to build relationships with customers, how to build clientele, and most importantly how much of an impact design has on a persons life. I have always known I wanted to pick a profession that helped people, and in an intimate/personal way. Through the years of working at Pottery Barn and a few other places, I really understood and settled that this is the job for me.

Now, I don’t know specifics about what I want to do after I graduate. (thankfully I have some time to figure it out) But whether I am doing commercial work, setting a calm and focused work space, piecing together a moody and upscale restaurant scene, or spending one on one time with residents to build their home interior, I know that I will be using my imagination and creativity to help others live a life designed for them.
