They aren’t office hours any more–consider a name change
I don’t think many (if any) instructors are meeting their students in their faculty offices right now. That is a great option for a normal semester, but this semester is different. The term “office hour” is also somewhat unfriendly and many students, especially first and second year students, many not even know what office hours are for.
Consider a new more welcoming name (virtual check-ins, classroom chats, virtual drop-in hours) and invite your students to help decide on the best meeting times for the class.
If you are holding in-person check-ins with students scheduling the sessions outside while the weather is nice is a good option.
If your need to set-up individual student meetings or conferences an appointment scheduler or sign-up platform (like SignUpGenius) may save you time and streamline the process.
