How to in NYC

During our visit to New York, I was lucky to do a few things I had never done before, including walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. New York is always refreshing because there is never a shortage of new things to try, and so I’ve decided to explain something new I did on this trip – how to cross the Brooklyn Bridge.
First, you’ll want to find directions to the train station closest to the bridge, being either the Fulton Street or Chambers Street stops. Perhaps though, like our publishing field school, you are already in the area and it’s just a brief walk to the bridge itself, which gives you the chance to explore a little more of New York on the way. Once you arrive, the bridge won’t be hard to miss, with pedestrians completing the same journey as you, especially if it’s a nice day, and street vendors lining the way forward. Join the masses here and follow the footpath over the busy streets below. You might wish to stop and buy a little snack or a souvenir, and the path across the bridge will certainly have something for anyone who is looking. You will almost definitely hear Empire State of Mind, by Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys, as it seems to be the unofficial anthem of New York – or at least of the Brooklyn Bridge. When you hear it the first two or three times, you might not notice it, but once you pass approximately the tenth vendor playing this song, it’ll probably be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. There are many nice spots to take some commemorative photos, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the angles and views that you like best. I recommend about halfway across the bridge, where the path opens into a wider platform and you can find many nice skyline shots. Going forward, the rest of the journey is about the same as before, and when you finally reach the end, you’ll be across the East River, officially in Brooklyn. From here, you might choose to visit some establishments, as we did at the East Village bar for comedy night, or you might want to find the nearest subway home. If that is the case, you can head to either the High Street or York Street MTA stations to find the train lines that will carry you back to Manhattan.
