Blog Post 20 The Crow and The Peacock

After watching a short video animation shared by my friend about the importance of being grateful, I went to the original Facebook page that published the video and decided to check out more videos. There was one video that had a weird title called The Crow and The Peacock. I was curious as to what the video was going to talk about so I clicked on it. I was very glad I clicked on the video because I learned a very important lesson. The video started by stating how one day there was a crow who lived happily, until one day he saw a peacock dancing in the forest and felt very jealous. He wanted to also be as happy and as alluring as the peacock. He had an idea and decided that he’d watch the peacock dance every day and pick up any feathers that fall from the peacock. He believed that when he had enough he’ll stick them on his tail and become just as exquisite as the peacock. Now he followed the peacock everywhere picking up every feather that fell.
After time he believed that he had collected the feathers he needed and put them in his own feather. Suddenly the crow started dancing and felt joy because he was able to be just as beautiful as the peacock. The following day he went looking for the peacock, to his surprise he saw a group of peacocks dancing with the peacock. The scenery made him grow more jealous and decided to dance with the other peacocks. The peacocks noticed that he wasn’t a peacock and stopped dancing. They asked him why he was acting like a peacock and the crow replied that the peacocks were too exquisite and content that he wanted to feel the same way. The peacocks replied to him that they all possess special qualities and that he might not appear the same or act the same, but he is gifted with intelligence. The peacocks told the crow to be satisfied because he has an intelligent brain, which the peacocks don’t have. The sulky crow returned home and united with his own friends. The oldest crow told him that he heard the crow learned a crucial lesson, you might not appear like a peacock but you are exceptional in your own way. At the end of the video, a vital lesson was given to the viewer to be oneself and be happy with the way one is because that’s the only way to truly be happy.

I believe that many people are guilty of feeling the way the crow was in the beginning of the story. We feel as if we are not perfect and try hard to look like other people. Many assume that by looking a certain way we will find happiness in life but that isn’t the case. Looking like someone will not bring happiness in one’s life because you are not being your true self but someone else. If can be difficult to look at a picture and not question why you don’t look like that happy and beautiful person in the photo, and feel like once you have achieved looking exactly like that person you are successful. In reality, though these actions aren’t of a successful person but an insecure person who is trying to live like sameness else instead of living one’s own life. The first step of feeling beautiful is to have self-confidence and appreciate the certain special qualities you have that separate you from everyone else. It’s important for you to believe you’re happy with your looks before convincing other people you are.

  1. This resonated so hard Lulu. Because, I as well fell victim to the ways of that crow. But we break free and stand in our truth!!!
