August 26th
  • Watch Pokemon Go gameplay walkthrough; as a class analyze the game’s setup for possible limitations.
  • Discuss limitations concerned with privacy policies (Marr’s article).
  • Discuss assumption about the reader’s values in Marr’s article

Week 2:

August 29th

  • Sentence Summary of article (10 am)
  • Discuss “Instagram, Geocaching, and the When of Rhetorical Literacies”
  • Work on Games

 

 September 2nd
  •  Present Games
  • Fill out Survey on games
  • Turn in games.
  • Write 500 words analyzing how your game encouraged your uses to do what you wished for them to do.

Week 3:

September 5th

 No Class: Labor Day
 September 7th
  •   Listen To: “Mapping” on This American Life
  • Find a map that is important to you (my idea of map is really liberal here) and analyze it
 September 9th
  •  Discuss data collection
  • Create different graphs to show information differently

Week 4:

September 12th

  • Graph and present your research question
  •  Go over video assignment (time permitting)
  • Rewrite one of your existing analysis hw assignments that you did not do well on.  Please incorporate my comments into the rewrite.

September 14th
  •  Present Drucker group work.  Fill out survey.
  • Read: Digital Divide
  • For each of the seven sections write three sentences: (1) summarize the main point (2) describe the purpose of the paragraphs in the section (3) write one criticism of the section
September 16th
  • Take another shot at Digital Divide.

Week 5:

September 19th

  • copy and paste the examples of evidence sheet created in class into a word document.  Next to each piece of evidence, state the claim that John Oliver is using to support it.
September 21st
  •  Brainstorm for your video.  State your topic and each of the four claims listed on the assignment sheet.
  • Be sure to start meeting with me.  You have two required conferences throughout the semester.
September 23rd
  •  Video Workday
  •  Choose a John Oliver video and analyze it.  Will be graded based on the HW rubric, so be sure those items are present

Week 6:

September 26th

  •  Video Workday
  • Write your video out as an essay.  (Like we did for the John Oliver video).  Write your claims as topic sentences and write out your evidence to support those topic sentences
September 28th
  •  Video Peer Review
  • Write a 500-700 word summary of one of the scholarly articles you are using as support in your video.  Follow my guidelines for a sumary.
September 30th
  •  Analyze your own video.  Focus on the analysis, not justifying your video.  Will be graded based on the HW rubric.

Week 7:

October 3rd

Week 8:

October 10th

lit reviews: edit lit review videos for claim clarity
  •  bring lit review videos to class (if you need your laptop or flash drive, please have it)
  • Find 30 sources that relate to your topic ( you might have to think of new ways to think about your topic) and list the titles of them/ link them to document.  (Don’t read all 30, just search for titles and abstracts that seem relatable.)
October 12th

Class Work

 Go through your video and literally hold up a sign stating your claim every time you make a claim.  Or go through on paper and write down the claim every time you make one.
October 14th  write an argument that your topic is relevant.  Include a thesis statement, 3-4 subsequent claims and evidence for each claim.

Week 9:

October 17th

Class optional write an argument about what other research does not do with your topic.  Include a thesis statement 3-4 subsequent claims, and evidence for each claim.
October 19th methodologies

 write an argument about how other research studies your topic.  Include a thesis statement, 3-4 subsequent claims, and evidence for each claim.

Lit review drafts due at midnight.
