20% Reading Journal |
- Each submission should be between 500 and 700 words in length and is due at 9pm the day before the class in which we discuss the reading.
- Each submission will be graded out of 7.5 pts. 27 submissions are needed to receive full credit, but you may submit to all of them for extra credit (or to make up for low scores).
- Late submissions will not be accepted
- Many of the submissions will be dependent on an activity done in class, and you must attend class in order to get credit for these activities.
- Unless other specific directions are given, Journal submissions will be graded using this Reading Journal Rubric.

“Last Week Tonight” Lit Review 20% |
- Create a 8-10 minute John Oliver style video on your topic
- Make 3-5 claims
- support each claim with at least two scholarly sources, at least one grounding example, and optional popular sources
- Does not have to be, but can be humorous
- Will be presented in class on due date.

Mandatory Conferences 5% |
- You must schedule and meet with me twice during the semester, either during office hours or at another planned time
- One of the two meetings must be early in the writing process when you are brainstorming ideas
- The other of the two meetings must be later in the writing process when you have a draft for me to discuss with you

Methods Section 15% |
- Must clearly describe what literally will be done
- Must clearly describe why this method is the best choice for answering the research question at hand including at least 2 sources that demonstrate the value and usability of the method at hand
- Must clearly describe how results will be determined from the evidence gathered (the method must be complex enough that the evidence gathered is not directly the answer to the research question)
- Must match the research question and be achievable by means the student has access to.

Final Research Paper 15% |
- An 8-10 page argumentative essay that adds new insight the the field you are studying
- Must include a minimum of 17 sources and an object of study
- Must include a Lit-Review, Methods, and Results section

Attendance 5% |
- Each day that you attend class, you will receive 1.5 points
|
Research Paper Poster 10% |
- Create and present a remediated version of your argument

Peer Review Group 10% |
- You are responsible for being in class on days of peer review and having a draft for review. Each peer review day and each draft will be worth 25 points.
