Analysis

An analysis should include:
  • A main argument
  • several claims that support the main argument
  • evidence that supports the claims
  • explanation to reader of how your evidence supports your claims
Remember:
  • analysis is not summary or description
  • analysis is based on the idea that the text (remember a text can be anything) contains a hidden meaning created by the composer
  • analysis is mostly concerned with how something is created as opposed to what is actually created.  So a close reading or text analysis would focus on how the author used words to create a feeling or conclusion, an analysis of a building would be focused on how the building was built to convey certain feelings or arguments.
