Attendance, Participation, and Group Evaluation

20%

Your ability to communicate in a business setting includes the ability to be reliable, contribute to conversations, and to be accountable in a group situation.   Thus, you will be graded on all three every day in this class.

 Emails and Memos

40%

Throughout the semester you will receive random situation scenarios involving members of your groups. Perhaps you may need to hire a new person and review resumes or maybe you need to have a serious talk with an employee or inform the rest of the company about a situation. You will need to respond to them appropriately.  You will have 48 hours to upload your response to icollege, regardless of when the email is sent (50 pts each).

Grammar Quizzes

10%

One of the best gift I can give you for business writing is the ability to confidently write with correct (both technically and rhetorically correct) grammar in any situation.  I have had a lot of success with learning grammar by memorizing rules, so we will have daily quizzes to test your memory of the rules we discuss in class, and your ability to use those rules in context.

Business Report

20%

You will find businesses (and I will help) that are interested in giving you a project with a tangible outcome.  These vary wildly in what they require of you and when they will be due.  However, they will provide you with real experience on a writing project for a real company that will give you real feedback.  If you have connections to a business, you may have the option of working on your own project.

Daily Journals

10%

Even though each day will be spent working towards your final project in small steps, your daily journal will be a space to begin the discussions about these tasks and to get credit for thinking deeply about them.  Although each person should submit to the daily prompt, each group member may submit the same document as their other group members.
