Murder of Hae Min Lee

Hae Min Lee a Korean-American high school senior at Woodlawn High School in Maryland , who disappeared on January 13, 1999 on her way to pick up her younger cousin from school. Her body was found partially buried in Leakin Park. The cause of death being manual strangulation.

The blame was put on Adnan Syed, Hae’s ex-boyfriend, and he was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison (Finn). This sentence was based off of eye witness Jay Wilds’ testimony stating that he help Adnan dispose of Lee’s body.

Adnan Syed’s case has gained exposure, and has been bought back into court due to new evidence of a alibi testimony of Asia McClain. The Maryland Court of Special Appeals upheld the decision to grant Syed a new trial and his new legal counsel has looked into the old evidence. It is noted that there is a mistake made with the use of the autopsy information and a faulty timeline based off of unreliable cell tower pings. With this additional evidence it seems that Adnan most likely did not murder Hae Min Lee.
