Design Impact Enviroment

The hospital, while being a place of healing in its own right, is matched with all other dimensions of an optimal healing environment. Some factors of environmental design may, in it self, help or stop healing. The environment may also make an impact on health by influencing the behaviors/healings of patients as well as the staff members who provide the care. In hospitals, the link between the environment and behaviors is very powerful and pervasive: Restrictive quiet policies, for example, are often in issue to help to speed the healing process..

There is a growing body of research explaining how the environment makes an impact on patient recovery.Private rooms in intensive care units have been shown to increase healing rates. A design that encourages low noise activity may reduce stress in the environment. The environment may also influence behaviors in more subtle ways by communicating through the hospital employees. The question is: Which rooms or floors are most conducive to health and healing? Can a homelike environment, with a low noise environment convey a sense of familiarity and comfort? In a home-like environment, staff members are likely to treat patients as guests?
