While the GSU Career center offers a vast number of valuable resources to students only one really stands out to me. They have one on one resume assistance. They can get you set up on Monster and other job databases to get assistance. They also keep extensive written works like books, journals, etc. that can assist students in finding the right career path for themselves or just explore other options. All these tools are GREAT!
My personal favorite is the virtual INTERVIEW portion they have at GSU. The Virtual Interview Practice Stream (VIPS) can be used at GSU or from your PC if you have a webcam. Its one thing to practice resume questions on your own. It is also another thing to have a friend or family member sit in to help practice your interview skills. I love this software because it helps people like me, who are a bit shy when put on the spot, to gain their own sense of confidence. The fact that you are recorded and can play back the interview of yourself is crucial. You can even get the career counselors advice on the interviews done. It may sound silly, but say for example you’re nervous in an interview. Do you fidget without knowing? Do you same the word “ummm” 10 times in one sentence? Things like this are easily weeded out when you’re able to practice by yourself and critique your own interview delivery. Its a very valuable tool and one I was surprised to find the GSU offers.
