My name is Kelvin Collins. I am predominantly a music writer. I have experience covering the real of hip-hop as well as indie and rock. I was inspired to write about music because of my admiration for urban culture. Music was and still remains the fuel that motivates me to do things throughout my day. I started writing because I wanted to offer something in return. I have been running a blog named KAJE in 2017, covering artists like Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, and BROCKHAMPTON. As 2017 continued, I wrote for a handful of small online magazines. As positive feedback of my material became the norm, I set my sights to write for larger publications. My greatest achievement to this day was making it, Blavity, a popular Black news publication with hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers. It was a candid story on my introduction to rapper Tyler, the Creator, Through my elation, I was inspired to write more consistently. That is when I found MEFeater, a rising online magazine for young adults that need a prominent music writer. I continued to write album reviews but expanded my talent by becoming a culture writer as well. I began writing about the inner working of the music industry regarding legal issues, rap beef, and things of that nature. I also became accustomed to phone interviews. I interviewed rising artists from multiple regions of the United States. This gig helped me recognize the relationships that can be maintained with artists and journalists. I ended up retiring from MEFeater in 2019. I continued writing my blog throughout all of this. Music will always be a medium I will appreciate, but I thought I needed to work more locally. I am now looking for work where the people within close proximity can read my craft. Working mostly online is fine, but having physical copies and face-to-face communication about my writing would satisfy me immensely. I also have found an interest in the medium of gaming. My hope is to become proficient in writing about both music and gaming as the latter industry is booming in popularity.
