The painting gives the impression of happiness. It is loving and mocking at the same time. The girl is surrounded by color, and yet also lit from within by a darkness, I would say this is a parody of what she wants the world to see her as, smiling and carefree, clutching an innocent toy. The theatre mask is a reference to the drama of the character of the girl, and the role she is playing in her pose. The yellow light around her is a point of sincerer joy, but is vastly overshadowed by darker colors that consume the large scale of the painting. The curved lines are whimsical, the unity of colors used on her body reflect inner turmoil.
The black and white art was intentionally made to have a lack of color. The quality of lines shown are a variety, ranging thin in some areas, while they increase in thickness in other areas. The lines also create many organic shapes. While some lines are regular, others are more chaotic. The women are experiencing nature, but they are also in nature, and part of nature. They both have control in their elements, and show their inability to completely control their surroundings. There is also a negative space near the water that feels incomplete. It is intentional to represent air, something that exists with every other element, but cannot be seen.
Both the painting and sharpie drawing are original works of art created by me.
