Draft 2- Built Environment Analysis

Even though GSU is not like other Universities, for example, we don’t have many open grass areas like traditional campuses, but we do have more opportunities then other schools by being in the city near some of the biggest businesses. Atlanta may not busiest city in the country but it is home of the busiest airport, Harts-field Jackson, and home to many large cooperation’s, Home Depot, Porsche…etc. When I was young I had a dream of the type of University life I would have. I would walk to class every day. I would sit in the grass every day to talk with friends and study. There would be Frisbee and someone playing a guitar. I now attend Georgia State University which is far from any of that. I take the bus to class and I meet friends in the lounge areas. I study in a spacious but crowded and loud library. This environment is not all bad we are closer to majority of the jobs and we already know the city so navigation through it is much easier there. My opportunity cost for a more diverse learning environment and wider opportunities is green space and fresh air. One 1of my close friend attends a college that is the opposite of my university. Her state college has open ground and study areas on the grass, benches where you can study and eat. On the other hand, her school is not located next to any businesses or job opportunities, in fact its neighbor is a technical college. You can say that being downtown around all the busy streets and people is an advantage that most students should take. Downtown is full of interesting people and you never know it may even run into a future co-worker or boss. Being downtown you can explore many buildings, and also you have many places to choose from if you want to do an internship. Many campuses cannot utilize these opportunities like my school and peers can. I would like to have more open areas on campus grounds, or a social gathering areas. It will certainly decrease the amount of students in the school’s library. Atlanta downtown is known for being hectic and have a lot of traffic. I believe having a social gathering area, not only for my school, but for the people of Atlanta, it will encourage carpooling. All schools and cities are not perfect; I have to admit. My school could be one of those schools that have bad students, can be in a horrible area where I cannot have phone reception or even have gangbangers and thugs everywhere. My school is not exactly my perfect, absolute dream campus, but it is pretty close. At night, when I leave class, it is so pretty. All the huge Atlanta buildings are glowing; many have some people still working. The hotel names light up the city, as you walk down the street, you hear people conversations at the near food café, you see couples laughing and friends having a good time together. The different parts of campus are all surrounded by something new. You will never see the same things while you are downtown it is always something new going on. As for other schools that does not have this opportunity, there is probably not a lot of new things happening. When I go to campuses that are different from my school, I compare them. What does my campus have that this campus do not, and vice versa? Do the students like their campus, like how I like mines? What would make this school better? These are some questions I think about when it comes to comparing my school with others. I believe when I was younger, my dream college was based off of movies, and television shows. Now that I am a college student, I can see that it was all my imagination. Now that reality has stricken its’ cord, I now understand reasons why some colleges are located here they are now. My friends state college is located next to a technical college; she has the opportunities to meet other students from another school. On the other hand, my school does not have opportunity, even with the recent changes, fusing our campus with Georgia Perimeter College. By my campus being in the heart of Atlanta, I have the opportunity of visiting big businesses and the people that works in that particular facility. Having a campus in downtown Atlanta is better than having a campus that is not. Who would not like seeing skyscrapers, and big business that makes Georgia what it is today, when they are walking or riding to and from class? There is also more way of getting to school, you can drive, catch a bus, and also the streetcar if all else fails. On the other hand, other campuses may not have access to many public transportation services, that my school does.

Thesis statement

Atlanta has become the Hollywood of the south east. We are home of some of the most famous shows, the walking dead real housewives of Atlanta, and some of the biggest Cooperation, home depot, Porsche.

Even though GSU is not like other Universities, for example, we don’t have many open grass areas like traditional campuses, but we do have more opportunities then other schools by being in the city near some of the biggest businesses.

Draft- Built Environment Analysis

The main point I want to get across is that Atlanta is creating more buildings and more space to live but it seems that Atlanta has less space. No where to park, in ability to expand one way streets to be able to have two ways streets. Traffic is bad because of the back up of lanes.

My main analysis will be about ____________

It will/will not compare two things. Either about the relationship to space and businesses in the Atlanta area.

Or the comparison of the thriving economy of a more spaced out environment.

Possible thesis- Just because Atlanta is closer together and heavily populated does it mean there are better and more opportunities available to us then larger cities that are spaced.

Generalize that atlanta is not ready for what is to come. With the space that we have now we either would have to get rid of the rest of the green we have or build building higher.

This picture shows special grade coffee. The smell around the table was refreshing, if u like the smell of coffee. There was actual coffee beans in jar at the end of the table. The picture showed the founder and some place that they get their top grade coffee beans from.

Chick Fil A has different kinds of restaurants, one of them is the Truetts grill. It is like a complete dine in restaurant which in the chain is the only kind, but this Dwarf house is different from other dwarf houses because they offer dine in waitress served service, as seen by the sign.

Interior Built Environment description

My interior built environment was Hapeville dwarf house. It is located minutes away from Hartsfield Jackson airport. This is the original Dwarf Grill opened up in 1946. Chick Fil A was founded by S. Truett Cathy, who is also credited to be the inventor of the boneless chicken breast sandwich.(2016 CFA Properties, Inc) Inside the Chick Fil A they have many artifacts that are original to the building. Inside they have pictures displayed of the workers from 1946, when the restaurant first opened, and they wore the original uniforms. The Artifacts are stored in a glass display box for everyone to see and be able to browse while ordering or waiting for their order and it is located right beside the register. Also, the pictures from 1946 is located on a table, next to a trash can which is not a good place because people don't usually like to stand next to a trash can. The general layout is very closed and cramp when there is a lot of people, but when the crowd clears out it is not difference because the cash counter is the dividing spot and main focus. The colors of the restaurant are the original colors of Chick Fil A, red, brown and white. The whole restaurant is very inviting and the workers are friendly. This built environment  is used as a place to eat or order food fast and or high quality. Chick Fil A is a well know business making over 6 billion dollars a year. (2016 CFA Properties, Inc)

Reflection

So far this year i have completed reading summaries, annotated bibliographies and descriptions. The process of writing for this class is extremely different from what I have done in the past. The process of writing in this class is easier then previous classes. I have learned that using scholarly documents are easier then googling several different sites. My first summary was, I felt, my best work but my grading says other wise. I have a lot of great ideas and i understand the general topic of an article but I don’t have the skills to chose the main points and relay them in my own words. Now that i received feed back about my summary i applied it to the most recent submitted summary. Now i believe I stayed on topic and stayed in the tone of the article but I did it in less words. I couldn’t meet the minimum of 500 words that was required.

I always try to attempt to do the extra points activities not only for the points but because they are helpful in doing the projects. The writers 2.0 helps me print out what I’m going to do and when. Going forward I plan to ask more questions on the summaries and other projects. My new approach to the assignments is to go ahead of the weeks and do my assignments, that are allowed, earlier so that when class comes I can ask questions and see what i need to improve before i have to turn the assignments in. I will also, to earn extra points, go to office hours, and also travel around Atlanta more and take pictures and discover more place. I hope to grow more in the classes to come and be top point earner every week.
