I created my own GIF file using Adobe Photoshop. In this animation, an emoji tear is running down a native american’s face. This sadness represents the harsh cruelties that the Trail of Tears entailed for the migrating natives. The native populations were coerced by unjust United States treaties to migrate to Oklahoma or beyond and leave their homeland behind without compensation. This sparked outrage within the natives and even led to violent actions in some cases like the execution William McIntosh. McIntosh was murdered by fellow Creek Indians due to the unpopular treaty he signed with the United States government. He agreed to a treaty that gave up Creek Indian lands. Historically, despite Congress disapproval, Preside Andrew Jackson made an order that officially put the natives on a path towards relocation. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 was enacted by President Andrew Jackson and made native populations leave behind their homes in the southeast to settle in westward. The infamous “Trail Of Tears” was the Cherokee’s route of exit. Forced on a thousand-mile excursion of hell through terrible conditions to current-day Oklahoma, the Cherokees underwent thousands of deaths on their involuntary migration. Ultimately, my GIF is supposed to allude to the Trail of Tears and act symbolic of the hardships that the natives endured.
