Reductive Value of a Collard Leaf

Objective: With this piece we practiced doing reductive drawing by trying to draw our own collard green leaves. Reductive Drawing involves rubbing compressed charcoal or charcoal powder over the canvas and carefully pulling it away by using a magic or kneaded eraser to make an object stand out on the paper. The lighting in the room had allowed us to try and capture the different shading that would come off of the leaf and made it difficult to have the leaf stand out more than the shading. This project wasn’t about trying to outline the leaf into the paper, it was about trying to make it appear on the paper on it’s own.
