Short Story 2

Putting it all on the line

50 dollars, just 50 dollars is all that Jerry has in his account and to his own name. Jerry didn’t make enough with his little office job. No one even took it seriously like how he did. Every day, his coworkers would just talk and anticipate about special food events that would be upcoming for the office. Jerry loathes his coworkers with a passion. “If only they knew how my life, maybe they wouldn’t be so goddamn happy all the time”, he thought to himself. “Maybe if life could hit them hard as it hit me, they would actually be productive and more hard working”, as he continues to hisself while rolling his eyes. Jerry has been through so many trails and tribulations during his life and even up to now. Living in a low class environment that solely depended on obtaining and spending money has affected Jerry greatly. He’s always struggled with his independence to being balanced and manageable with his lifestyle. To make things worse, all of his family members and even some of his girlfriends have shared character traits that a zodiac “Pisces” would have. They are generous, amiable, positive natured people with a deep sense of kindness and compassion. They are socially popular as well. Jerry is the complete opposite of that zodiac sign, a “Virgo”. All the traits a Pisces possessed, Jerry could not stand it. So, since his coworkers were so uplifting, he despised it. Jerry was so stressed with his finances that he is in debt and in a sticky situation as he could potentially lose custody of his life long pal, Wenchie. Wenchie is a dark coated furry French bull dog with the most playful and loving personality. Wenchie as been by Jerry’s side through thick and thin. He was there when Jerry list his 1st tooth, met his 1st girlfriend, had his 1st breakup, and lost his father to cancer. Wenchie is the only one that Jerry believes understands him. Wenchie is all he has, so it breaks his heart to handle the fact that he could be possibly living without his best friend all because he had no collar on Wenchie when they both were at a park. “Stupid dog pound and their stupid rules…”, Jerry groans. Jerry suddenly gets an idea and runs out of the door of his office. Running through the halls and down the stairs as the sound of his boss’s outraged voice fades away behind him, he bursts out the building’s door and hops in his car to drive to his only hope. “This may be crazy… this may be even stupid! But, I can’t lose him now…”, Jerry thinks to himself, speeding across every car lane. “This could be my chance to even quit this stupid job and actually be successful for once….”, he says anxiously. He parks his car crooked and jumps out of his car. As he frantically runs into the gigantic glass building, he stops at the front desk and says in a panic, “I need to speak to Roger, quick!”. Jerry softly clutches the desk. “I wanna make a deal with him….”
