8 Ways

Having the ability to use one sheet of paper to construct into an object, shape, or sculpture is mind boggling. Paper can be used in amazing ways. You can combine paper, burn, wet it, mold it, shape it, cut it, fold it, roll it up, and many other things. Having the ability to tell a story with 8 sheets of paper is all the more incredible. 

My signature move in this project was crumbling up the paper to add the effect of a heavier looking piece. I just liked the dimension it brought to the project. I only used glue, tape, and a lighter to give the detail. I added the idea of a poem type book to tell a story.

Creepy Crawly Insect

With this project, we used wire and our broad imaginations. We had to create our own creature made out of three already existing bugs. I chose to make mines out of two bugs and one animal (we had that choice as well). My creepy crawly was a ladybug, dragonfly, and a cat. The objective was to simply get familiar with wire, which thankfully, was an easy challenge. 

We used wire cutters, thin wire, and a thicker wire to do this project. I first cut pieces of the thick wire long enough for me to bend and shape the body, which would be the ladybug. Once I was done creating the body. I used the thin wire to make the face of a cat, wings of the dragonfly, and legs of the dragonfly.

Inside/Out

We used two different types of materials for this project. One was clay and the other was a bar of soap. I was able to show how the clay and soap could combine to become one composition and make a stunning art piece. The main purpose was to be able to combine both materials, again, into one.

The process was the best part. I first needed to carve the soap down into an abstract shape. I also needed to carve holes and crevices for the clay to “rip and run” through the bar of soap. Once I got my desired shape and image, I then began to incorporate the clay into the project. The clay was shaped into rings and circles to penetrate through the circles and crevices. I love the simplicity of this little art piece.

Armor 

I learned how to thoroughly express through art to make a greater change in today’s society. Its the little things you do that can leave an impact on someone, and the cycle can continue. I love the quote, “think locally, act globally”. You have to be able to be trusted with the small, before you can be trusted with something larger, is a quote I grew up on.

Technically, I learned how to actually use a rigid wrap to create molds. I always watched producers and directors body sculpt on YouTube for movies. They grab the rigid wrap and start putting it on the actors/actress body. Its cool I get to work with it and gain some experience in that field.
