Grading papers with a deadline looming be like…
Just kidding of course. But I know we are all stressed out trying to get everything done in time, so, in that interest… I’m going to just skip straight to the goods:
Things to focus on this week:
- Koch’s postulates – what they are, and what they are for.
- How Koch’s postulates had to be revised into River’s postulates
- PCR, Western Blot, ELISA and staining with antibodies
- How each assay works
- What each assay is trying to detect
- Direct versus indirect ELISA
- Hint: Please use the definitions in my online lecture, the textbook and in the video below. There are different definitions across the internet that may confuse you
- How viruses can be used to correct genetic diseases in gene therapy.
- Be able to identify if an assay is detecting viral genome, protein or antibodies
Here is the video on PCR
Here’s another video on PCR 🙂
Heres a great video on ELISA
And this one mentions western blots 🙂
I will have office hours on Wednesday morning please check the calendar for times.
Good luck, and LMK if you have any questions
Let’s go slaughter some exams!!
