The longest word ever printed in English….

….1,185 letters long and describes the string of amino acids in a protein from the first virus ever discovered, Tobacco Mosaic Virus.  It was published in 1964 in a journal called Chemical Abstracts.

And here is Tobacco Mosaic Virus, also in all its glory…  This was the first virus discovered, and the first picture ever taken of a virus.  One of the people who elucidated its structure and predicted, correctly, that its genome was RNA instead of DNA, was Rosalind Franklin.
