I was assigned to find a book that I found interesting and alter it. I was allowed to use any form of media to transform the book. Either something related to the book or something completely different from the book. I decided to go with “The Lighthouse Encyclopedia book” because creating a working lighthouse would be fun and exciting. I’d never done this before, so it was a bit challenging for me. I created the lighthouse with cardboard wrapped in plaster wrap. The rock under the lighthouse was created using foil and plaster wrap. I painted the light in a traditional white and red stripes with acrylic paint. I also created a guardrail out of the book paper. Before starting this project, I knew I wanted to try using resin because I found it fascinating, So I decided to create the water out of resin. I struggled to get the color exactly how I wanted it with the resin, and it took a while to dry in the book. Adding the light was pretty easy; I just had to glue the power supply inside the lighthouse, feed the wire to the outside, and connect the switch. When I presented the project to my peers, they liked it. They especially liked the resin water and thought it was part of the book. They also suggested adding a boat, so I created a small paper boat to be in the water. Overall, I enjoyed the project and experimenting with new forms of media that I’ve never used.
