1 block of Floral Foam, Box Cutting tools, Paint, Paint Brushes
In this project, the aim is to create an abstract sculpture using a block of floral foam using subtractive carving. We use different tools to break down and create our sculpture. The objectives are to understand space, volume, and mass while creating three dimensional forms.
To be honest, this was a very messy project. The foam was very delicate and shed a lot, which left workspaces dirty. I took inspirations from space and old ruins, deciding to create some kind of star that was once encased. As all old ruined items do, it beings to erode, the frame begins to break off, but there were attempts at fixing it. I thought that maybe people would use Kintsugi, a Japanese art that uses gold to repair broken objects, which is why the broken parts of the frame are glittered with gold. The star itself is made with more unnatural colors which is meant to show that it is not from our world.
