Diving into the more messy sides of charcoal as we now focus on creating value in our art. Value is a strong element that defines how light or dark an object can be depending on the lighting. For example, shining a singular light on an object would brighten the side that the light is beamed on. However, as you walk around said item, the light struggles to go past a certain point and is eventually covered in its shadow.
Our first go at this project is our still life art. We looked at a new set of items scattered across a table as two lights are shining against it. While it is not completed, value is still very much shown in this piece. Due to the dark gradient towards the left, it can be assumed that the light originated from the right.
Next, the Paper Bag and Styrofoam Ball piece. Oftentimes, value is worked on with some type of ball, but adding another object like a paper bag gives the artist more to work with and understand value as they focus on the crinkle lines and where the light begins to disperse.
Five Favorite Things, objects within our home that we care for. In this case, my objects were a scented candle, pencil case, flower balloon, Miffy plush and a lobster plush.
