The Social Fabric

The armor project was the last project for Three Dimensional. This was my favorite project because I like designing clothes. The Social Fabric represents the socialness of people, and the fabric represents the clothes we wear, who makes it, and how it affects the world. The armor is meant to protect anyone who loves wearing high end fashion brands but when they turn around you can see what’s really being worn. The top part and the skirt represent name brand clothing and humanities need for fast fashion. On both the top and skirt there are name brand fashion page to represent humanities need to wear high end brands like Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Versace. Also, trending clothes made for everyday are in high demand but 85% of the clothes made end up in dumps. The back part and the headpiece represent what’s happening while the clothes are being made.

The production of many fabrics like Polyester, Nylon, and Acrylic takes up a lot of natural resources like water and wood. When these fabrics are made, they create hazardous smoke and any waste created is dumped into lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Today the majority of people do not know where their clothes are made. On most clothes you will see a tag saying the article of clothing was made somewhere else. Underdeveloped parts of China, India, and Africa use child labor as a way to cut cost when making clothes. This negatively affects the children involved because the children are as young as five a come from poor families and believe they need to work and provide for their families. The last piece of my armor is what we as a society need to do to protect future generation. Recycling and using sustainable fabrics to make clothes is the best thing to do for us and the planet.
