Rupaul’s Drag Race: Front Runners

Any Drag Race viewer has a handful of looks that took their breath away when they hit the runway. Twelve seasons of competition means countless works of couture have dazzled judges. Some great pieces were overlooked, and others completely forgotten over the years. Looks on this list were well-received by the judges, but we feel the need to reiterate why we were so shook by the quality of their work. Some queens earned multiple spots on this list, ‘cause ain’t no mercy rule in the jungle! Gentleman start your engines, and may the best woman win!

  1. Sharon Needles- Zombie Glam (Season 3)

Sharon initiates the season with an avant-garde take on poise and elegance as she strut down the runway in her puke-colored zombie dress. She may have won the challenge for this look, but still, fake blood on the runway always deserves a second look.  Haters will say this dark, goth style of fashion is her only trick. Clearly, they haven’t seen the rest of her arsenal.

  1. Sharon Needles- Punk Rock Collagen Nurse (Season 3)

Sharon’s punk rock look plays on her name “Sharon Needles,” but makes it fashion. This look is a monstrous cross between read-to-wear and insane asylum that could only work on Sharon.

  1. Detox- Grand Finale Reunion (Season 5)

Detox’s couture is never outdone, yet somehow, she upstaged herself in her grand finale look. Her gray make-up is so even on her body, it appears flawless. The seamless effect gives her an “old Hollywood” look that none of the other queens can fathom.

  1. Raja- Marie Antoinette Madness (Season 3)

Raja always retained a sense of intellect in all of her runway looks in season 3. This look in particular look screamed “fashion week!” or maybe some historical renaissance fair counterpart. The styling and accessorizing of this bare look creates an timeless appearance that makes Raja’s runway one for the ages.

  1. Katya- Sophisticated 70’s Lesbian (All Stars 2)

Katya rocked the pants challenged with this vintage twist that no one saw coming. The rich, saturated effect of the brown garment is contrasted with bright yellow heels to create Katya’s sophisticated revival from the era of shaved heads and solid colors.

  1. Detox- Latex Extravaganza

Detox (once again) shows us how she backs up her out-of-the-box interpretations of challenges with wicked sewing skills and otherworldly knowledge of fabrics. Her idea for this latex challenge was different than everyone else’s, and even though her concept was extremely complex, her execution was flawless. Detox was the undisputed winner of nearly every runway during this season of all-stars, and this look may be her best.

  1. Brook Lynne Heights- Detox Look-A-Like (Season 11)

Miss Brooklyn Heights did not disappoint when charged with the task of impersonating Detox on the runway. She rose to the challenge, using latex and a neon color palette to simulate the daring, edginess we love in Detox

  1. Brook Lynne Heights- Snatch Game Redemption (Season 11)

After a horrendous snatch game performance, Brook Lynne took out all the stops for her runway walk. Her saucy afro and pauncho was just the introduction to a reveal! She dropped the loose-fitting garments, and strut her stuff in a sexy piece made entirely of straps.

  1. Aquaria- Cheetah Print Saboteur (Season 10)

For a challenge which the queens were supposed to play their own worst enemy, Aquaria dominated the runway. Her cheetah-print outfit was fitted perfectly with the edgiest spinal cord decoration lining the back. Killer.

  1. Aquaria- The Naked Martian (Season 10)

Where others piled on glass bowl helmets and tin foil suits, Aquaria knew that less is more. Her runway walk was nearly nude, as she only donned a lightning bolt and a pair of heels to win the challenge.
