Biological Approach

Some psychologists see behavior and mental processes through the biological approach.

The biological approach is an approach that focuses more so on the body- mainly the brain and nervous system. A lot of the activities we do and interactions we have are do to this approach. It also involves the study of the immune system and genetics. The biological approach explains the in detail the idea of feelings, thoughts, and behavior from a biological perspective. The brain and nervous system is what influences our interactions with the world and the environment. The brains plasticity gives humans the right to adapt, grow, or change. There are nerves in the nervous system that allows things to flow in and out of the body such as afferent and efferent nerves. The neurons in our body help us be able to retain information which is another main focus of the biological approach. Almost everything that is done day-to-day by a human is done because of the biological approach. It deals with the cells, genes, neurons, and etc. that allow our body to function the way it does.

Some strengths of this approach is that it helped develop other views of psychology and this approach is very supported by empirical studies. One major limitations is that it doesn’t much so see/understand cognitive processes.
