For this assignment, I decided to use “ChatGPT.” I found that it was easier to navigate and answered my questions more thoroughly. While doing research through the AI, familiar answers came up. Some of the key skills that need to be displayed are communication skills, content creation (having a portfolio with articles, blog posts, or written content), social media engagement, research skills, tech savviness and networking skills. These skills are common in most communication fields, so I have always tried to make sure the skills are worked on.
During the research, I was glad there were things that I knew, but there was certainly information I was not aware of. I did not realize that there were so many Marketing and Public Relations national organizations. There are two national organizations for both Marketing and Public Relations. However, the cross-disciplinary organizations were the interesting part. There are organizations made up of people in Marketing, Journalism and Public Relations. The purpose of this is to help with networking across fields.
My next steps are to update my LinkedIn, build my portfolio, and seek networking connections. I am a Journalism major and had to create a portfolio for a class I previously took. I need to build on that to show my skills for the entry-level positions. Also, I plan on taking my professional headshot and rebranding myself on linkedIn to market myself better.
At this point, I am a bit nervous about graduating and entering the real world. However, I am very excited to start my new journey. The steps that were previously mentioned will be worked on and completed upon graduation, so I can find a job in my field.
I think this week’s assignment was very helpful for the preparation of finding a job in the desired fields. Using AI as a tool was never taught to me. So understanding that it can be a useful tool was very eye-opening for me. It gave an outline of steps that should be taken to improve my professional self. I will be revisiting the conversation with AI to continue to learn how to keep making improvements where I can
