Ada Teicu. “Interior Design.”McDonald’s Redesign: a New Era for Fast-food Restaurants. N.p., 23 Sept. 2010. Web.
Ada Teicu, a writer interior designing and public relations, publishes an article on the modern design of McDonald’s restaurant. The article brings awareness to the design of the restaurants and how they are being redesigned to attract younger customers and professionals. The different interior designers of the space plan to create a more comfortable environment for families and easy place for teenagers to hangout. The color scheme of the restaurant is even planning to change. The goal of the redesign is to give the restaurants a more modern look in order to keep up with time.
This source is useful to my research because it looks at the interior designs of the current and future McDonald restaurants. It appeals to my assumption that these restaurants are designed to offer comfort to people of younger ages. This article doesn’t include how the newer designs affect the community, but it does entail how the interior designers will go about making McDonald’s more welcoming to the younger generation. The source is very reliable and the author specializes in making a connection between interior designs and how they affect the community. This article was published in 2010 and now in 2016 current McDonald’s restaurants fall in order of this post.
When I began signing up for spring classes at Georgia State University, I had no clue who would be the best teacher for me. Some of my professors were selected based off the experience of my peers, but Mrs. Arrington’s English 1102 class was randomly selected. I had no clue what I was getting myself into, but I just assumed we’d just write papers majority of time. I realized how wrong I was from the very first day I entered Mrs. Arrington’s classroom. The requirements of the course were the least of what I expected.
Before entering this course, I never knew how to construct writing assignments based off hands-on research. I was always told to go straight to the library or Google to find a reliable resource. This way of conducting research offers a more open-minded structure of things. It makes you think deeper than what is actually on the surface. You run into so many facts and there are so many different ways of approaching these facts. This works much better for me because I am a hands on learner. Now I longer worry about what to write, but how much to write about. Citing before now was suggested, but not encouraged. This course has put great emphasis on how important it is to cite and use quotations around things that come directly from the source. I was once warned of unintentional plagiarism and afterwards I no longer took citing so lightly.
From being in this class I’ve learned that one of my strengths is details. When it comes to the reading summaries I could give great details on what the article is about. After listening to Mrs. Arrington lecture, I learned that in reading summaries details should be included but only the details that are important. I have many weaknesses in this course and I’m trying to work through them. One weakness is the the lack of understanding of the reading, which can be seen through my reading summaries. I’ve made comments to Mrs. Arrington explaining my concerns and she has offered a lot of help. My plans are to attend group meetings to see my peers intake of the reading to help me better understand the text. I feel this will offer me a great deal of help and help me keep an open mind with any other assignment. Weakness number two is the lack of structure in my sentences and with details. I have a problem with subject-verb agreement and Mrs. Arrington offered me help as always. This time I declined, because I was afraid of the truth. The truth being whether or not I was smart or if I could speak properly. In the beginning I wasn’t familiar with constructive criticism, but over time I realized that feedback was a good thing for. Feedback is a great technique for this class because there is always room for improvement.
At first, I was totally against taking this type of class. I felt like there was no way I could make it through the course, but it was. I had to realize that this course is suppose to make me a better writer and researcher. I feel this class will continue to teach to more aware. I’ve already become aware of the details of my surroundings, sentence structure, and organization. For the rest of the time in this class I will no longer be afraid to ask for help and I will accept the fact that I too make mistakes. I am so glad that I am taking this course with Mrs. Arrington, because she has taught me way more than I need to know. Thank you, Mrs.A!!
An image of the “idea” of unisex bathrooms
“Making Bathrooms More Accommodating” was written by Emily Bazelon, where she raises awareness on to the gender discrimination against bathrooms. The the author suggests that bathrooms are “the clearest visual markers of sex difference” and not many people are open the collision of male and female bathrooms. The author references a law proposed in Houston that ruled out discrimination of any kind at any place. The opposing side of the law on the idea of men and women sharing restroom space and played on the fears of voters by promoting assault against women.
Transgenders are accepted within the school districts, but they still struggle with deciding where to get undressed or use the restroom. The article talks about the experience of a high school transgender girl not being allowed to shower in the girls’ locker room and later receiving a stall with a curtain This event supports the idea of “accommodation” that the author feels presents itself as relevant when talking about accessing bathrooms. The author states that this a confusing concept to the public, because it is not the norm.
Gender based segregated restrooms began in the 19th century once men felt that women were taking over their space. This concept became a social norm that people were afraid to change. The author suggests an “all-gender” restrooms to accommodate this issue and that it has the potential to be what is considered “normal”. The overall purpose for accommodating restrooms is so that a person of any gender can feel like they “belong”.
This is a painting of John Lewis, who was a politician and civil rights leader. This photo represent the historical figures who contributed to Auburn Avenue. He is now a U.S representative of Georgia and has served his time since 1987.
This is a very popular church located on the corner of Auburn. It was founded in 1847. It was a predominately black church that was used for community gatherings. The church is currently still open. While speaking to a woman who attends the church, she informed me that the church is still involved in the community. This church has also done a research project on the redevelopment of Auburn Avenue.
This photo of a barbershop located on Auburn Avenue and it is one the oldest located on the street. The business is currently closed, but there is a sign attached to the window that refers you to another location. This represents my observation that a number of these businesses have been shut down.
This is a picture of the Atlanta Street Car and how it runs through the middle of a narrow word. The purpose of this photo is to show part of how Auburn Avenue is structured. The street car makes parking difficult for drivers and bicyclist since there isn’t a lane for them to ride through.
This is one the most popular nightclubs located on Auburn Avenue. It was originally known as the “Top Hat Club” until Carrie Cunningham purchased in 1949. The club was currently closed for the day around the time I did my fieldwork. The club is located at the top of Auburn Avenue at 184-186 Auburn. Some of the best enetertainers such as James Brown, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin have performed here.
