About

Hello! I’m Isaiah Underwood and I’m an avid writer with an urge to enhance a company’s representation of culture and authenticity by portraying a strong voice through effective writing skills that will embody the purpose of the company’s vision with my demonstration of creative and editorial work. I have a strong focus in copywriting, editing, content writing, and synopsis writing for organizations and companies which I could be of an asset to. I am currently searching for employment related to my field of study and eager to be exposed to areas that would better equip me for an editorial and/or writing related position.

I graduated from Ohio University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing. I am currently based in Atlanta pursuing my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Georgia State University as one of the editors for Five Points, a literary magazine, assisting in proofreading and monitoring the publication’s content on social media platforms In the past years, my creative work has been appreciated by different literary magazines and anthologies including Pine Manor College’s 2019 Maximum Tilt Solstice Anthology, Ohio University’s 2021 Spring issue of Sphere Magazine, and Ohio University’s 2020 student literary Portal Magazine.

Purpose

This portfolio is intended for job searches focusing more on content writing, copywriting and copyediting, and editorial positions for publications or other media influenced companies. From my creative work of poems and short prose to past articles I’ve written for newspaper columns, my aim is to create a personal website which showcases a range of my writing interests that could potentially strike the interest of different companies that I can be of an asset to regarding the editorial and writing field.

Content Design

I think it would be ideal to construct a site with, of course, an “About” page to familiarize my audience with my background and experience in different areas of content that would appeal to various concentrated types of writing related careers. A page focusing on my resume/CV would benefit others in gaining a better understanding of my professionalization and experience with editorial projects I’ve worked and collaborated with others on, as well as an extensive description of my role with the organization. A page related to a list of publications would also be beneficial to my site. I think providing my audience with links to my literary work can help them have a better scope of themes that interest me in literature which might spark a publishing company’s reasoning for considering me for an editorial position that is centered toward a particular genre of literature that I’m knowledgeable of. I also want to consider my experience with newspaper writing and include links to the different opinion articles I’ve compiled throughout the years that demonstrate my versatility with several topics associated with Pop Culture.

Design Tools

I’m aiming to engage with templates that display a full portfolio that is geared toward showcasing my writing. I’ve considered becoming more well-versed with coding which would be very beneficial in having more insight of the HTML process, its elements, and styles that would broaden my skills in effectively building my own site that complements the vision I have for the interfaces display. I’ve also thought of other programs like WordPress. Programs like Behanced, SquareSpace, and Adobe Portfolio have existing templates that I think can assist in creating the most cohesive and simplistic style for the goal of an intensive writer influenced portfolio.

Repetition in Web Design

Definition

Repetition is essentially the consistency of various repeated elements.

Background

Repetition in web design stems back historically to the early twentieth century with research conducted by German psychologist, Hermann Ebbinghaus. His research focused heavily on the human memory and its exposure as well as retainment of information. In his research, Ebbinghaus discovered that a constant repetition of information improves our ability to recognize and remember it, which attributes to our attentiveness of recalling things we’ve seen in the past. Deliberately choosing to maintain a consistency with elements like color, pattern and alignment allows web designers to establish fluidity in terms of their display on their desired page.

As a result, their desired targeted audience can attain information quicker being more familiar with the aesthetical layout of an interface, finding different areas easily accessible in terms of navigating their way through a site without significant confusion. The visual cues in digital design serve as a guide to assist users in their understanding of the site’s content. Web designers strive to construct a consistency with that site’s aesthetics which evidently are aimed at simplifying user’s experience in exploring what a successful website has to offer. The use of repetition gives a sense of professionalism that constitutes a major portion of a site’s ability to look presentable and organized as users browse through its given information. Repetition in web design doesn’t focus entirely on one specific aesthetical aspect of the visual hierarchy of a site.
