All around the museum is various exhibits that explain and show the trials and tribulations that the millions of slaves went through on their journey and their arrival to the United States. One of the most notable is known as “The Door of No Return.” When initially looking at it, it appeared to be a short passage with a large, open door. At the end of the passage is a small painting. This painting is of the ocean, with the sun setting. The blue of the water mixes with the oranges and the yellows of the setting sun. This brief exhibit works to demonstrate the final moments of the slave’s time in Africa. This would be the final door they would pass through before being shipped off to another country.
