This is Bert’s blog. It’s my first “go” with this BLOG stuff so please bear with my mistakes which will be many.
I am a mid-level sophomore and have not yet committed to a major; however, I am leaning towards accounting and/or economics. Courses already taken include: Accounting 1 and 2, Micro-economics, Macroeconomics, Japanese 1 and 2, English 1 last semester, which I enjoyed with its focus on late night TV comedy/parody news shows, and some off message courses like Art History 1 and 2 (trying to understand my wife’s world).
I am married to Mieko Horton. a graduate of Otsuma University in Tokyo, Japan. Mieko is an accomplished artist. Mieko has shown her work around the world: Sydney, Australia; Tokyo, Japan; New York City; Valencia, Spain; and, of course here in Atlanta. I met Mieko when she was my Japanese teacher at Berlitz in Atlanta. (Marrying her was the only way I could pass the course.) Her studio is close to GSU so easy commuting for her on my school days and depending on my schedule we get together for lunch. See Mieko’s work on her website below
I enjoying running and exercising. My personal theory is that if I exercise in the morning I can eat and drink whatever I want in the evening. So far my theory remains to be proven as I am continuously fighting the “Battle of the Bulge”. As seen in the picture in the left I am not exactly ready for the Olympics. However, in last year’s Peachtree 10K Road Race I was able to edge out a guy carrying a cutout cardboard super hero shield and I didn’t wind up in the hospital tent.
When I need a “pick me up” I always click on the below link. Besides an inspiration this song never fails to make me proud to be an American. I hope it also will provide you a “pick me up” when needed.
As many of you have probably already noticed, I am not the typical GSU student. In fact, this is my second go round with college having attended Western Maryland College, (name changed and is now McDaniel College). In terms of my college experience, my days at GSU seem like science fiction depiction of the future compared to the “middle ages” of my former college experience. This is what I will be addressing in my blog: the difference in my college experience now and then. As such, in addition to my fellow class mates, I will be making this blog available to my friends to comment on their college experience versus what I am reporting on my present day experience here at GSU.
