WE WILL BE THERE FOR YOU

Our Story

Since the 1900s, Henshaw’s, Inc. has been serving the Southeastern United States with quality products and service. Although we look very different today, our business once started as a humble dairy farm in Cherokee County, Georgia. That was where George and Marjorie Henshaw worked to provide the “Freshest Milk in Georgia.” To achieve their goals, they imported cows from overseas and bought up to 800 acres of land for their herds. By the 1920s, the Henshaw’s milk business had expanded so much, that they started delivering milk to customers’ homes in both Georgia and South Carolina.

Yet, as with all things, change comes eventually. In the 1960s, customers across the US began to crave something other than home delivery: the convenience of a one-stop-shop grocery store. So on June 12th, 1967, George and Marjorie Henshaw’s grandson, John Wood, opened the first Henshaw’s Food Market in Decatur, Georgia. Since then, the business has expanded to accommodate customer needs; the Henshaw’s Food Market stores began to open both earlier in the morning and later in the evening than traditional supermarkets; they sold foods, beverages, and dairy products from the original Henshaw’s Dairy farm; they even began sharing ownernship of the company with associates through profit-sharing plans.

Today, Henshaw’s is glad to be a staple of American roadways. Although our look and products have changed, we still champion the character of George and Marjorie’s mission: to provide the highest quality product and service around whenever you need it.

We’ll be there for you.

A Southern Staple

Since 2015, Henshaw’s has proudly served as the largest convenience store chain in Greater Atlanta and the fourth-largest food retailer behind Kroger, Publix, and Whole Foods. Our customers choose us for more than the convenience. We have become a Southern Staple because of our consistent dedication to quality – both of products and of customer experience. Our heart always belongs to Georgia, but we are also honored to serve customers in South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, and the southern tip of North Carolina.
