First Manuscript Collection

A promotional flyer from Ackerman's ERA marketing scrapbook.

A page from Ginger Ackerman’s “Marketing the ERA in Cobb County” scrapbook: a flyer promoting an ERA event.

The first collection of personal papers to be acquired and processed for the Donna Novak Coles Georgia Women’s Movement Archives belonged to Virginia (Ginger) Ackerman. A stockbroker and social activist during the 1970s, Ginger volunteered for ERA Georgia, and then went on to become a founding and active member of the Cobb Coalition for the Equal Rights Amendment.

Her papers were donated on September 26, 1995, and the jewel in the crown of her collection is a 30-page scrapbook that she titled, “Marketing the ERA in Cobb County.” The scrapbook can be accessed in the Reading Room in Special Collections, or as a digital object from our Digital Collections web site.

Ginger’s oral history can also be found in the Georgia Women’s Movement Oral History Project.
