Social Media

Where we started

The ART Lab has a vested interest in increasing the public’s access to the field of psychology. In 2021, a graduate student suggested we start an ART lab social media presence to increase the accessibility and reach of important psychological research (thanks, Ria!). Our first social media account (Twitter) quickly gained traction, supporting our ‘hypothesis’ that people are interested in and hungry for psychology information that is both reliable and easy to understand. As a result, we expanded our presence to Instagram as well, and plan to keep growing!

Our social media goals

We aim to break down barriers to knowledge that exists in the world of academia by creating summaries of research articles and psychological terms in less technical language.  Celebrating the importance of diversity and equity is also very important to our lab and we spotlight individuals working in the field from various communities. We utilize social media with the goal of decreasing the stigmatization of mental health in society. Each week we create and post resources for people who are living with various mental illnesses and those who support them.
