Mission Statement

The Anxiety Research, Treatment, and Technology (ARTT) Lab is dedicated to serving the community and advancing the science on anxiety disorders through research on its causes, effects, and treatment. We aim to improve the lives of individuals affected by anxiety by leveraging digital tools to enhance accessibility, acceptance, and benefit of evidence-based psychological assessments and interventions. With our research, we recognize that societal factors shape individual behavior, that personal backgrounds are complex and meaningful, and that social conditions influence the extent to which people benefit from psychological science and mental health care. We aim to maximize the impact of our work through the following actions:

  • Annual training to strengthen our cultural awareness and humility in research.
  • Recruiting participants who reflect the communities our research is intended to serve.
  • Making decisions about study design, measure selection, data analysis and interpretation to maximize the usefulness of our research for all, including underserved communities, and acknowledging the limitations of our work.
  • Sharing resources that promote mental well-being, self-care, and self-determination.
  • Expanding the reach of psychological science by mentoring and training students from a wide range of backgrounds for advanced education and leadership roles in psychology and related fields.

We will do our part to be proactive and accountable in producing psychological science that contributes to our shared self-determination and liberation.
