Georgia State University (GSU) takes great pride in its commitment to ensuring that individuals with disabilities have equal access and opportunity to all university programs, services, and activities. GSU offers a comprehensive range of services and resources designed to support students, faculty, and staff with disabilities.

The Office of Disability Services (ODS) is a cornerstone of GSU’s efforts to promote accessibility and inclusion. The ODS works tirelessly to ensure that students with disabilities receive the accommodations and support they need to fully participate in university life. These accommodations include note-taking assistance, sign language interpreters, accessible course materials, and testing accommodations. The ODS also works closely with other departments across the university to ensure that facilities and technology are accessible to everyone.

GSU’s Disability Resource Center (DRC) is another essential resource that provides support to faculty and staff with disabilities. The DRC offers ergonomic assessments, assistive technology, and accommodations for meetings and events, helping to ensure that faculty and staff with disabilities can effectively perform their roles within the university.

GSU is committed to promoting disability awareness and inclusion on campus. The university regularly hosts events and activities to educate the campus community about disability issues and to celebrate the contributions of individuals with disabilities. These events help to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that is supportive of everyone within the community.

In conclusion, GSU’s dedication to accessibility and inclusion is a testament to its commitment to providing equal access and opportunity to all members of the community, regardless of disability status. The university’s robust suite of services and resources, along with its commitment to disability awareness and inclusion, ensures that individuals with disabilities at GSU have the support they need to succeed and thrive.

SPECIAL: EVENTS THAT HAPPENED THIS PAST WEEK

On February 22nd, 2023 the recreational services and the department of Access and Accommodations at Georgia State University hosted an event called REC YOUR WAY DAY, which had intramural sports like beep ball (a blind sport), sitting volleyball, para climbing (blind sport), etc. The event happened downtown in our recreational center. I thought this was pretty cool to share as it was inclusive and some of the sports were adaptive like sitting volleyball, billiards, and wheelchair basketball. There was also an event called “Rebel Groove” which was inclusive to all fitness. At Georgia State, more events should be promoted to more people because it’s good to have people know that events like this exist.
