“The Autism Research Project is something that our group takes pride in. Led by our leader Marina Fishman, we seek out those with autism to find out more about them and how their experiences differ from others with the same diagnosis. Marina was diagnosed with autism at the age of fifteen. Despite being an individual with low support needs, she noticed that she was different from her peers. She, like many others, was put in various autism support groups, but she felt they were unhelpful and lacked any sense of support.

As a group, we feel it is our duty to make an effort in making sure those with autism are heard and understood. We are conducting interviews with autistic people and their family members to understand the difference between how autism is felt vs how it is seen. We also want to find a connection between the moment when one finds out they have autism and when they start identifying with the disorder. Our goal is to be able to discover more nuances within the scope of autism and how other people with the disorder relate to them. Accomplishing this” By Hakum
