” Just Add Water”
This project is about creating a narrative that revolves around my daily life and who I am as a person. I chose to create a story that is silly, understated, and slightly dramatic which are all words I would use to describe myself. I also wanted to create a story that would allow me to draw plants and flowers which is one of my most favorite things to draw. The process involved thinking about things I like but that could also show a little of my personality. I needed to incorporate myself and a hero element in the story but I also wanted to do something with a little humor. My favorite stories/comics always have an element of humor, dark humor even. I started sketching little thumbnails to fill each panel in my layout to get a better picture of what it could look like and what the flow of the story might be. For the beginning, I chose to create a dull looking room with dead plants to start off as a typical day in the saga of my life. Then for the middle, there is a surprise to lighten things up a bit. I wanted the resolution to be meaningful and contrasting with the drab looking beginning. So, I made the last panel the biggest and most detailed while still keeping with the simplistic style so as not to take away from the shape and natural look of the plants and the dramatically improved aesthetic of the room. I spent a lot of brainstorming time coming up with this creative solution so that I could incorporate all of the elements of the project while staying true to myself.
