I completed these pieces during once a week class sessions at Cobble Creek Studios Art Academy near my home. I learned under the director and owner Deborah Kepes, practicing the techniques of precision and methods used by master artists. The “Horse Head” piece was my first drawing, completed over a six month period, using measurement methods for precise lines, and multiple layers of graphite pencils for shading. The “Veiled Lady” was my second drawing done in the same technique, and my final piece for the drawing part of the course. The “Veiled Lady” was more complicated, but I always love a good challenge, and it took me a similar amount of time to complete. The methods I learned during these drawing sessions, and methods I continue to learn at the studio, are ones that I will utilize for the rest of my artistic career.
