Project 3- Self-Designed Final Project

No Longer Strangers

I have always been a rather social person but lately, I have found myself in situations where being social does not come easy. I would either get too scared to approach out of fear of rejection or choose to walk past the person as if they weren’t there. When tasked with this assignment, I saw the opportunity to use it do something rather unexpected in my opinion. This project is titled No Longer Strangers. It is a project meant to both push me out of my comfort zone and aid me in meeting new possible friends. I got the chance to walk around the Georgia State campus, Atlantic Station, Norcross, the Mall of Georgia, and many other locations to hopefully find people to take part in this project. It is also meant to encourage those who see these images to go out into the world and get to know the people around them.

“A stranger is just a friend you haven’t met,” is a quote that was once said by Roberta Lieberman. I believe that the statement is a true one because, with everyone you know now there was a time when you did not before. There was a time when they were not the closest person to you and just a stranger who might have walked past you at some point without a word being said. The images were taken to capture moments with strangers. The first few moments you spend talking to someone are the ones that determine what a person first thinks of you and whether or not they would consider talking to you again. They determine the impression you leave on a person as they go about the rest of their day, so we are often told to make it a good one. We see so many strangers that pass us by on a day-to-day basis and for some reason, we may not get the courage to reach out and say something or they simply just don’t catch your attention. I am no longer strangers with the people in these images as they all agreed to stop for a moment and simply talk to the random person with the camera.
