Hello everyone, my name is Gloria Davis and I am a senior undergraduate student at Georgia State University. I wanted to do an exhibit of a blog that is meaningful in its descriptions and provides clarity to the disparities now and throughout history. Power is a complex word. Its meaning is used in reference of domination over others and through financial barriers. In the United States of America, social institutions have constructed this word to have leverages and privileges over others. To me, power means the actual forces of the universe. Also, the forces of “nature” that is inflicted on the universe like rain, tornadoes, hurricanes, and earth quakes. Everything else is a man-made form of power which ultimately implies controlling something or someone. To this point, my blog will reveal and make known some of the real truths of society in terms that knowledge can transform the social constructions of control to help liberate individuals.
Why the title Open Your Eyes to The Real Reality?
I have actually been thinking about writing some book to relate simple truths to society for understanding of why things are the way that they are and a possible solution to end the madness. The first book will be dedicated to my sons Jalen and Jacob. It will be titled “Letters to my African American sons.” within this book will be my personal feelings and concerns that a mother have for her children. The second one would be called the “Truths” it will be brutal, cold, hurtful in which people will not believe that a society perceived and continued to operate without feels. The truth hurts and that would be my aim. I want the emotions of dis-belief to be confronted. And the last book would be about saving money, understanding foods and learning about medicine. I have not exactly hand master these concepts but they are a working progress. I believe that these are the underlining key concepts that enfolds POWER.
Why videos?
I have uploaded numerous videos that represent the contours of the word Power in society. Some of these videos are enriching and others just boldly representations of realistic clarifications of issues in society that we as a people struggle with. In the reading of Aimé Césaire, Between Colonizer and Colonized” he states that “Whenever there are colonizers and colonized face to face, I see force, brutality, cruelty, sadism, conflict, and, in a parody of education, the hasty manufacture of a few subordinate functionaries,…..necessary for the smooth operation of business. This was written in 1955 and today is 2014. Some things have changed but the revolution is with this generation that have not directly experience and endured force brutal slavery, segregation, to the extreme where it was just accepted openly by everyone as if it was normal.
