There are many theories about what happened to JonBenet Ramsey the night of her death and who was responsible. Theories of who killed her range from the town santa, a molester who knew her because of her time in pageants, or an adult she was close with. A lot of people believe that the Ramseys were a part of the murder but some are not convinced. CNN reported in December of 2003 that “DNA found at the scene is submitted to the FBI database. Earlier blood tests showed the sample was from a male who was unrelated to the Ramseys.” (CNN, JonBenet Ramsey Murder). This piece of information would certainly rule out Patsy Ramsey from the crime considering that she is was a woman who was directly related to JonBenet. If the police found evidence that confirmed that they could not be suspects then we would have to assume that one of the other theories were correct and it was an outsider who somehow knew JonBenet. From further research into the DNA recovered from the body and the scene is has been found that there was a third genetic marker instead of just two different samples. The Daily Camera reports that, “The presence of a third person’s genetic markers has never before been publicly revealed. Additionally, the independent experts raised the possibility that the original DNA sample recovered from JonBenet’s underwear — long used to identify or exclude potential suspects — could be a composite and not that of a single individual” ( Charlie Brennan and Kevin Vaughn). A composite DNA sample means that the conclusion of a male who was unrelated to Jon Benet cannot be concluded and her family, specifically her mother, cannot be ruled out. Even with the possibility of the DNA matching another suspect it is still unlikely that anyone outside of the family would have been able to get into the home or know the information needed to write the three page ransom note. There were no signs of forced entry, no footprints inside or outside the home, and no fingerprints or physical DNA other than what was found on JonBenet’s body was found. There is more evidence to support the idea that Patsy Ramsey was responsible for her daughter’s death rather than a stranger who would have had little to no connection to her or the crime scene.
